I'm not sure whether "Race overall Place" is for women or women and men. Out of 230 people I placed 86th and out of 111 women I placed 19th. My average pace was 54:42.
Saturday was a beautiful day for my first 10k race! I didn't really have a time in mind, I just wanted to come out of it feeling good. My boyfriend and I started the morning with a good mile warm-up, stretches, and a few warm-up drills. We lined up close to the front, closer than I've ever been before. The first part of the race was on the road and after the first 1/2 a mile to mile or so it snaked onto a dirt bike trail. Some part of the trail were very holey and rocky and I felt like I was running a trail race. I can't imagine that the people pushing the strollers got past that stretch! After the rocky parts we ran parallel to the river which distracted me from my side cramp for awhile. This race was so hilly. The trail was marked with markers in miles and in km and I got pretty confused with splits so I ended up with no individual mile times. I do know that I kept the pace for most of the race for the first 4 miles and I slowed down to a crawl for the fith mile. The path entered another rocky patch and I saw my boyfriend who finished before me (49:48) who came back to tell me to push it because the finish line was just behind the bend in the road. I sprinted the last 200m in my best college sprinting form (probably my 400m pace) and I heard people saying "wow she's running fast." Whoops. I had way too much in me in the end. I need to learn how to push myself better but overall I'm very happy about this race!
